Our Mission.
Alpha & Omega is a Christian nondenominational ministry that promotes Christian
understanding on and off campus. This includes proclaiming Jesus as a personal
Savior, encouraging a righteous Christian life, and sharing the Good News to others.
Our main mission is to go and make disciples on and off campus teaching them how
to be Jesus' friends.
Our Constitution.
Membership
Section I. Membership should be open to all University of the Ozarks' students,
faculty, and staff. Membership will become active when dues are paid before the
deadline set by the officers.
Section II. Active membership includes the participation in all activities to
promote Jesus Christ and the Good News throughout the school year and to raise
funds for the ministry's projects.
Section III. Only active members and special guests, previously authorized by
the officers, will be eligible to participate in the yearly mission trip.
Section IV. Only active members are eligible to receive financial support from
the ministry for the mission trip.
Section V. The financial support provided to each active member will be based
on a specific percentage set by the current officers. Based on that percentage,
the officers will decide how much of that percentage will be given to each member
according to the member's participation and effort during the semester(s).
The Officers
Section I. There should be a group of officers consisting of a president,
vice president, secretary, treasurer, out-reach officer, in-reach officer,
and public relations.
Section II. At the beginning of each semester, the officers shall plan the
ministry's primary activities and prepare a budget for the upcoming semester.
Section III. The officers shall meet regularly to evaluate the performance of
the activities, plan the up-coming activities, and review the topics that will
be discussed in the general meetings.
Section IV. In the absence of the president, the vice president shall
precede over the meeting unless the president designates another officer.
Section V. All expenditures for the ministry must be made with the awareness
of the officers or the president and the treasurer.
Duties of the Officers
Section I. The President shall be the administrative head of A&O.
He/she shall exercise general supervision of the affairs of A&O and shall
preside over its meetings. The president shall be the chief coordinator of
the ministry and oversee the duties of the other officers. He/she shall prepare
agendas for both executive and general meetings. The president shall have the
power to appoint any committee he/she deems necessary for the carrying out of the
A&O activities. He/she shall perform other duties usual and incidental to this
office to support the rest of the officers and activities.
Section II. Additional duties may be required of each officer according to
circumstances.
Section III. All officers are expected to attend executive committee meetings,
general meetings, and participate in activities of A&O.
Selection of Officers
Section I. The current officers should make the selection of the next year's
officers based on the criteria set in the Bible in the book of Acts 6:3 and 1
Timothy 3:8-10:
"Now look around among yourselves, brothers, and select seven men who are well
respected and are full of the Holy Spirit and wisdom. We will put them in charge
of this business (Acts 6:3 New Living Translation)"
In the same way, deacons must be people who are respected and have integrity.
They must not be heavy drinkers and must not be greedy for money. They must be
committed to the revealed truths of the Christian faith and must live with clear
conscience. Before they are appointed as deacons, they should be given other
responsibilities in the church as a test of their character and ability.
If they do well, then they may serve as deacons (1 Timothy 3:8-10 New Living Translation).
We believe in A&O that this is a ministry established, supported, and guided by our Lord
Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit and that any decision should be based according to
His will, supported through prayer and His word. Therefore, the officers will
pray asking for guidance from God to select the members who will replace their
positions in the upcoming year. The officers will select the members that they
believe will be most appropriate to fill their positions. Based on that selection,
the officers will talk personally with each selected member and confirm their
willingness to accept the assigned position.
The officers will use the criteria set in the previous scriptures from the Bible
in that they will seek for active members who are committed to serve Christ with
their lives, full of the Holy Spirit, and have the desire to serve God through A&O.
Section II. Nominees for each of the officer positions need to be active members
at the time of their nomination. Elected officers shall pay the appropriate dues
by the deadline.
Section III. In case of a vacancy in a selected office, a new officer shall be
selected by the officers, based on the previous explained criteria, to complete
the term. The selection is to be as soon as possible following the announcement
of the vacancy. A vacancy in the office of the president shall, however, be
occupied by the vice president.
Advisor
Section I. Dr. Rickey Casey shall serve as advisor.
He and the officers will appoint another advisor if needed.
Meetings
Section I. General meetings shall be held at least twice a month during
the school semester, at a regularly established meeting time and place,
except when the school calendar indicates a conflict. The general meeting
may be centered around an activity or issue regarding A&O.
Section II. Any information concerning A&O shall be brought to notice to members
through flyers or e-mail.
Section III. An emergency meeting may be called when circumstances deem necessary.
Dues and Fees
Section I. The membership fee and deadline for payment shall be established
at the beginning of each semester by the officers. Each member shall pay this
fee by the designated deadline in order to be an active member.
Section II. It is the responsibility of each member to pay his/her dues to the
treasurer and to see that his/her membership is in good standing.
Section III. It is the responsibility of each member to be accountable for the
value of the assigned amount of tickets given to him/her to sell in order to raise
funds for A&O.
Section IV. A&O shall establish an account through the U of O business office,
and shall require the signature of the advisor with the concernment of the officers
for withdrawals.
